Summer Activities at BCSS
Colts Camp
Get ready for the 2nd annual Colts Camp hosted by BCSS. This summer the camp will expand to two sessions (July 9-13 & July 16-20). The focus will be to learn sports and have fun. In dong so, we will help to develop fundamental movement skills and build physical literacy.

Crothers’ Basketball Camp
The goal of Crothers’ Basketball Camp (July 3-6 & July 23-27) is to develop fundamental athletic skills as well as basektball skills. Campers will develop these key skills: fundamental basketball skills; reactive ability and motor coordination; and ABC’s: Agility, Balance, Coordination. These skills will be developed through games and skills development stations.

Call for Student Volunteers—Coach Camp
Don't miss this opportunity to get certified as a Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) coach via the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). Volunteer at Colt's Camp. You'll work as a team to supervise up to 50 campers aged 10 to 12. The multi-sport camp runs from July 9-13 and July 16-20 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Volunteers will assist in teaching the campers a new sport each day. Training will be provided. Volunteers will receive approximately 48 volunteer hours for one week or 80 for two weeks.

Raising Resilient Teenagers
BCSS Parent Council invites you to a very special evening on May 14th at 7:00 pm at BCSS. Dr. Karyn Gordon will speak about The Age of Overindulgence: Raising Resilient Teenagers. Dr. Gordon is a renowned speaker who understands the strangths and needs of adolescents.

New Driveway

Yearbook
The yearbook crew would like to the enlist the help of parents and students alike in order to provide thorough coverage of BCSS events. They can simply sign up on the ReplayIt site - the password for our school is yearbook2012 - and they can instantly upload photos that will be used in the 2011-2012 BCSS yearbook. We are looking for photos for events such as semi-formal, spirit days, and any sporting events.
2012-2013 Transportation
At the Board’s Policy and By Law Committee Meeting, trustees voted to support busing rural north students directly to their respective schools at no cost to the parent.
This improved service will reduce commuting time for students and make their travel to/from school less arduous. This service will be reviewed on a yearly basis, and consideration will be given dependent on public transportation (YRT) service in the area.

Student Parking
All students driving to school must complete a student driver application form available from the main office.
A parking pass will be issued and must be visable at all times in the vehicle. Students must park in the back row only—adjacent to the rail-way line.

When you will be out of the country for business/vacation and leaving your child at home, please remember that the BCSS office requires an emergency contact name and number for your child. Please forward this information
to leslie.chilvers@yrdsb.edu.on.ca to have on file.
North Bus Routes
The YRDSB bus will continue for the rural north students for the remainder of the year. This includes students travelling
from Sharon north (starts in Sutton) and Mt. Albert north (starts in Pefferlaw).
Colts Corner
Guidance is opening Colts' Corner in room 1012 from 12:00 to 12:50 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students may eat their lunch, play games, and hang out with friends.
WANTED: Camping Equipment
Outdoor Education at BCSS is looking for used camping equipment. We need chairs (soccer parent syle), cooking gear, hiking, sleeping, and tents. Please send all items to Mr. McCutcheon in room 4005.
Host Families Wanted
Please consider becoming a homestay family for the York Region District School Board. It is an enriching experience to host an international (Visa) student during the school year or in the Summer months. Homestay families will receive $ 800 per month to cover the cost of hosting and providing a caring, comfortable and secure environment for the student.

Learning Disabilities Association of York Region
LDA York Region is pleased to
announce a new academic and ADHD coaching program in partnership with professional coaches from Evoke Learning. LDAYR now offers academic coaching to students age 12 and older, and ADHD coaching for adults. LDA York Region will offer a coaching transition session for high school students entering grades 11 and 12 to prepare them for making post-high school choices. Today’s high school students are expected to make important decisions about their academic and professional careers at an early age. Adolescents with learning differences can find this even more challenging, and often feel unmotivated,
